ATF Bohemian Pilsner - Grainfather | Brewzilla | Guten

The ATF Bohemian Pilsner is golden coloured beer with a dense, long-lasting, creamy white head. It has a rich complex maltiness with a firm yet soft and rounded bitterness complemented by the spicy flavour of Saaz hops and an earthy, spicy, floral aroma. The aftertaste is balanced between malt and hops.

Yeast is not included in the kit. If fermenting cold we recommend using Froth Vagabond (Assumed Origin: Budêjovický Budvar) or:

  • Mangrove Jack's Bohemian Lager yeast or
  • Fermentis SafLager W-34/70 or
  • Lallemand Diamond Lager Yeast

If fermenting warm we recommend using Fermentis SafLager W-34/70 or Mangrove Jack’s Californian Lager.

Fermentis SafLager W-34/70

Sensory testing performed by Fermentis on W-34/70 shows that it is a very robust yeast capable of providing a clean neutral flavour profile across a wide range of fermentation temperatures (12℃ - 20℃). Click here to download the Fermentis iPhone app for more information.

Note on Water Profile

The recommended water profile for this beer is very soft with no more than 7ppm of any mineral. The following water sources have slightly higher concentrations of some minerals than the recommended water profile, however they are still sufficiently soft to produce a soft delicate beer such as the ATF Bohemian Pilsner:

  • Paraparaumu/Raumati/Waikanae/Peka Peka
  • Te Horo
  • Wellington

The beer may be brewed using other water sources, but may not have the same soft delicate mouthfeel and bitterness. Rainwater, reverse osmosis water, or bottled spring water is ideal.

Full instructions and some good tips to get the most out of my Grainfather. Beer is a traditional pils - just what I wanted. Thanks to Patricio for assistance via e-mail. Am also impressed the grain and hops I want are always in stock.

First full grain lager

Disclaimer: I need to wait the six week of lagering to try the final product.

Detailed brewing instructions were a great help. Helps me interpret BrewFather recipes and general recipes much better.

Ingredients all nicely packed and labeled (eg each hop addition was a single pack of the various hops)

Wort tasted great
Before crash cooling it tasted great - no diacetyl, etc
First taste at 3C tasted so good I was tempted to pour another.
High expectations for the final beer end of January.

Patricio has been a great help over email discussing this, brewing methods, other recipes.
