Yeast Pitch Rate Calculator – Quick Guide

1. Choose your yeast

  • Manufacturer – Pick the brand of your yeast (e.g., Lallemand, Fermentis, Mangrove Jack’s, Froth Technologies).
  • Yeast Strain – Select the specific strain. The calculator will automatically use the correct pitch rate logic.

2. (Optional) Add a custom yeast

  • Click + Add Custom Yeast.
  • Fill in the required fields: name, type (dry or liquid), pitch rate range, temperature range, packet weight.
  • Click Calculate Pitch Rate – the custom yeast will be used for that one calculation (it is not saved).

3. Enter your batch details

  • Batch Volume – Liters or gallons.
  • Original Gravity (OG) – Specific Gravity (e.g., 1.050) or °Plato.
  • Fermentation Temperature – °C or °F.

4. Calculate

  • Press Calculate Pitch Rate.
  • The results will appear below:Total yeast needed – grams (dry) or billions of cells (liquid).Recommended packets – number of sachets/pouches based on the packet weight.Pitch rate – g/L or million cells/mL/°P (with total cells).Temperature warning – if your fermentation temperature is outside the yeast’s recommended range.

5. Liquid yeast only – pitch comparison

  • For Froth Tech or custom liquid yeasts, a blue box explains whether 1 pouch is a perfect match, a slight under‑pitch, or how many pouches are needed.

6. Reset

  • Click Reset Calculator to clear any custom yeast and revert to the standard yeast selection.
