Palmerston North has 10 different water sources supplying 7 different distribution zones across the region.

Bunnythorpe, Longburn, and Ashhurst have their own bore supply, whereas the rest of the area is supplied by a single water source or by a combination of water sources.

The composition of the water supplied from the majority of Palmerston Norths water sources is suited to brewing most styles (with adjustment) except for styles that require very low mineral content such as a Bohemian Pilsner. This does not preclude the water being used for such beers, but they may not be as soft and delicate as they could be if softer water was used.
