The ATF Czech Amber Lager is a flavourful beer that blends the rich, toasted malt characteristics of amber ales with the smooth, crisp qualities of lagers. It boasts a deep, amber to copper hue, with a balanced profile featuring caramel and toasty malt flavours complemented by subtle hints of toffee and dark fruit. The finish is clean and refreshing, with a good hop bitterness that adds a touch of balance without overpowering the malt sweetness. This lager is perfect for those who enjoy a satisfying yet easy-drinking beer with a bit more depth and complexity.

Yeast is not included in the kit. If fermenting cold we recommend using Froth Vagabond (Assumed Origin: Budêjovický Budvar) or:

If fermenting warm we recommend using Fermentis SafLager W-34/70 (max 18℃) or:

Lallemand NovaLager (max 20℃), or
Mangrove Jack's Versa Lager (max 20℃), or
Mangrove Jack's Californian Lager Yeast (max 20℃).

Note on Water Profile

The recommended water profile for this beer is very soft with no more than 7ppm of any mineral.

The beer may be brewed using other water sources, but may not have the same soft delicate mouthfeel and bitterness. Rainwater, reverse osmosis water, or bottled spring water is ideal.

Brewing Salts & Custom Water Profiles for Homebrewers

To help you achieve the target water profile and optimal mash pH, every kit includes brewing salts. During checkout, you can select your water source from a dropdown menu.

Water source not listed? Choose “Not Listed/Not Required”.
Have a water analysis report? Select “I will supply a water analysis info” – we’ll adjust the recipe and provide the exact brewing salts for your water.

We need the following from your report: Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Chloride, Sulphate, alkalinity (as CaCO₃) or bicarbonate level, and pH.

When to Contact Us About Your Water

If any mineral exceeds 50 ppm or your Sodium level is over 25 ppm, please contact us. We’ll assess whether your water can be adjusted to the target beer profile.

For Brewers Using Other Water Sources

The target water profile is provided so you can calculate your own mineral or acid additions.

Dealing with Chlorinated Water

If you have chlorinated tap water, we recommend using an activated carbon filter (like our Beer & Water Filtering System with a 0.5 Micron Carbon Water Filter) or Campden tablets to remove chlorine and chloramine.
