Brick Road XPA: A Crisp & Refreshing Extra Pale Ale

Brew the perfect modern session beer with our XPA brewing kit. This extra-light pale ale is brilliantly clean and dry, featuring a subtle fruitiness and mild malt balance that lets the bright hop character shine. Incredibly refreshing and endlessly customisable.

What You'll Brew:

  • Aroma & Flavour: A clean, light base with subtle fruit notes from the yeast, balanced by a mild malt sweetness and crisp, dry finish.

  • Appearance: A brilliant pale straw colour, clean and bright.

  • Character: Ultra-refreshing, light-bodied, and perfectly sessionable. The ultimate crisp, modern pale ale.

Your Brewing Journey, Made Simple:

This all-in-one can contains our exceptional hopped wort—the foundation of your great beer. Just follow these steps for a crisp, refreshing XPA:

  1. Mix & Make it Your Own: Empty the contents of the can into your fermenter. Add about 3 litres of hot water and stir thoroughly to dissolve the concentrated wort. Then, add your 1kg of brewing sugar (dextrose) and stir again until fully dissolved. Finally, top up the fermenter with cold water to reach the 23-litre mark.

    • Pro Brewer Tip: For a true lower-carb, extra-dry XPA, add a sachet of glucoamylase enzyme with the yeast. It creates a crisper finish and higher ABV by converting more sugars to alcohol.

  2. Pitch & Ferment: Sprinkle in the included American Ale Yeast. Seal your fermenter and place it in a stable, room-temperature environment (around 18-22°C). The active fermentation will typically be complete within 3 to 7 days.

  3. Dry Hop (Recommended) & Condition:
For that classic XPA character, dry-hopping is recommended. Just as active fermentation finishes (around days 3-5), add your hops. Use 30g of vibrant NZ hop varieties like Nelson Sauvin, Riwaka, or Nectaron for tropical and citrus notes.
After dry hopping, allow the beer to condition for another 3 to 7 days. This lets the yeast clean up and hop particles settle.

  4. Carbonate & Enjoy: Once conditioning is complete, bottle your beer with carbonation drops. Store the bottles at room temperature for 1-2 weeks to carbonate before chilling and enjoying your fresh XPA.

Approximate Specifications (for 23L batch with 1kg dextrose):

  • ABV Range: Brew it as a sessionable Low (2.6%) or a classic Mid (4.8%) strength. Note: Using glucoamylase will result in a higher ABV.

  • Colour: Pale Straw (5 EBC)

  • Bitterness: Low-Medium (17 IBU)

  • Original Gravity (OG): 1.038

  • Final Gravity (FG): 1.008 (approx.)
