Brick Road Down-Under Pale Ale: A Vibrant & Hoppy Classic

Craft your own signature Antipodean ale with our Down-Under Pale Ale brewing kit. This versatile foundation is your canvas to create a beer that matches your taste, from a sessionable light ale to a boldly hopped classic. Simply brew with sugar, or explore different fermentables and dry hops to make it uniquely yours.

What You'll Brew:

  • Aroma & Flavour: A bright and hoppy character, driven by your choice of dry hops. Expect vibrant notes of tropical fruit, citrus, and pine from classic New World varieties.

  • Appearance: A beautiful, pale straw colour.

  • Character: Crisp, refreshing, and perfectly balanced with a clean malt backbone that supports a bold hop presence.

Your Brewing Journey, Made Simple:

This all-in-one can contains our exceptional hopped wort—the foundation of your great beer. Just follow these steps to create your perfect Pale Ale:

  1. Mix & Make it Your Own: Empty the contents of the can into your fermenter. Add about 3 litres of hot water and stir thoroughly to dissolve the concentrated wort. Then, add your 1kg of brewing sugar (dextrose) and stir again until fully dissolved. Finally, top up the fermenter with cold water to reach the 23-litre mark.

    • Pro Brewer Tip: Adjust the body and ABV by using different fermentables like Dry Malt Extract (DME). See the can for recipe options.

  2. Pitch & Ferment: Sprinkle in the included Pale Ale Yeast. Seal your fermenter and place it in a stable, room-temperature environment (around 18-22°C). The active fermentation will typically be complete within 3 to 7 days. You'll know it's slowing down when the vigorous bubbling in the airlock subsides.

  3. Dry Hop (Highly Recommended) & Condition:
For that classic flavour, dry-hopping is essential. Just as the active fermentation is finishing (e.g., around days 3-5), add your hops. We recommend 30g to 100g of New World hops like Galaxy, Pride of Ringwood, Nectaron, Nelson Sauvin, or Motueka. Adding them at this stage means the remaining active yeast will consume any oxygen introduced, protecting your beer's vibrant hop aroma.
After dry hopping, allow the beer to condition for another 3 to 7 days. This gives the yeast time to "clean up" and allows the hop particles to settle.

  4. Carbonate & Enjoy: Once conditioning is complete, bottle your beer with carbonation drops. Store the bottles at room temperature for 1-2 weeks to allow for natural carbonation before chilling and enjoying your fresh, homebrewed Pale Ale.

Approximate Specifications (for 23L batch with 1kg dextrose):

  • ABV Range: Brew it as a sessionable Low (2.6%) or a classic Mid (4.8%) strength.

  • Colour: Pale Straw (5 EBC)

  • Bitterness: Low-Medium (17 IBU)

  • Original Gravity (OG): 1.038

  • Final Gravity (FG): 1.008 (approx.)
